Liz Ashworth Exhibition
Date: Friday 7 October 2011 - Sunday 9 October 2011
Time: 10am - 5pm
Venue: Memorial Hall
Artist(s): Liz Ashworth
Event Details:
Elizabeth Ashworth studied for her Intermediate Diploma in Art and Design Art at Wrexham in the 1960s. She began publishing poetry a little later and her paintings and poetry are seen to inform one another, in the sense of their preoccupation with beauty, fragility and the passing of time. The focus of her most recent work is that of horizons, distances, space and the ephemeral. Figures appear, sometimes barely distinguishable, melting into their context of sand, sea or field and suggesting the isolation and vulnerability of human beings in nature. This is a theme she hopes to develop, moving away from the representational and deeper into abstraction.
In other work she celebrates the colours of fruit or flowers, seeking that resonance that hints at something other than the painted subject. Elizabeth has exhibited at Oriel Mostyn, The Royal Cambrian Academy, Theatr Clwyd, Mold, Penrhyn Castle and Colwyn Bay library. She has published fiction and poetry and is working at the moment on a poetry sequence based on the Persephone myth to accompany a forthcoming show of the painter Helen Booth, at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
Accessibility: Steps to front entrance, ramp at rear from carpark.
